porting wires and similar parts. At festivals especially “Stop-
trick” see great opportunities for their S3D short.
The saying “content is king” seems to be more up-to-date than
ever. Anyone who can present an S3D film at present can (still)
claim to have a unique selling point. Thanks to stereoscopic 3D,
going to the movies has become an experience again. But the
S3D short is facing a similar problem to the 2D short because a
short film is so seldom screened with a feature film. Regrettably,
because when a 3D feature film follows a supporting film, it also
profits from this since the viewer as a rule needs a few minutes
to get used to the S3D image. Likewise having such screenings
in the tried and trusted arthouse cinemas has proven difficult to
date because only a few of them are equipped with digital 3D
projectors as the financing issues still have to be resolved here.
The film festivals still represent an important screening opportunity
for shorts, which is also true for 3D shorts. To date there
have only been a good dozen festivals which are capable of projecting
stereoscopic films, but the tendency is clearly increasing.
And these festivals are looking for new and appealing content.
Anyone who can submit a S3D short has a good chance of having
it screened at the festivals in their 3D sections. Likewise bundling
together S3D shorts into a shared roll, which in the meantime has
become a hard drive with DcP, is an exciting perspective.
Even screenings outside of cinemas are offering new opportunities.
Sony included a Blu-Ray with different S3D shorts, selected
by a competition, in the purchase of a high priced 3D television.
What a great opportunity for many small films to find an audience!
In September, Telekom started to show S3D content on its
Entertain platform and the private broadcaster Sky is following
