Full Text: This beetle can’t s<strong>in</strong>g En<strong>to</strong>mologists have named and described a new k<strong>in</strong>d of Indian<br />

whirligig beetle, part of a wide-rang<strong>in</strong>g family of aquatic <strong>in</strong>sects. It’s called<br />

Orec<strong>to</strong>chilus orbisonorum, <strong>in</strong> honor of <strong>the</strong> late rock ’n’ roll legend Roy Orbison. Creative nam<strong>in</strong>g isn’t<br />

new <strong>to</strong> en<strong>to</strong>mologists Quent<strong>in</strong> Wheeler of <strong>Arizona</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> and Kelly Miller of <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

of New Mexico, who discovered <strong>the</strong> new beetle with Paolo Mazzoldi of Brescia, Italy.<br />

In 2005 Wheeler and Miller made <strong>news</strong> with <strong>the</strong> discovery of 65 new species of slime-mold beetles.<br />

The en<strong>to</strong>mologists named three of <strong>the</strong> species <strong>in</strong> honor of President George W. Bush, Vice President<br />

Dick Cheney and <strong>the</strong>n-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. One o<strong>the</strong>r was named after Darth<br />

Vader.<br />
