Life is just too darned busy - even in paradise!
Sometimes one just can’t get a handle on the “tight
wire act” that is LIFE. Keeping everything in
balance is tough to pull off, ever mindful of what
they say about “all work and no play…!”
Constantly struggling to maximize the number of
hours in the day, this writer/artist finds oneself in an

ever increasing “multi tasking mode.” Traveling
back from a much needed mountain vacation,
though ill timed as always (from a business
vantage point), I ponder the meaning of life and
naturally - about business back on Tybee! I
document these oh so deep thoughts on my PDA
phone while my husband Mark drives. Travel time,
these were the few hours that I used to steal for
pleasure reading. Today, I type away in an effort to
make the Breeze deadline without forcing both
Sundi and Rob (editor & layout) to simultaneously
pull their hair out! Oh, what a fine mess you’ve
gotten yourself into, girlie! Beyond travel time, the
double duty continues. Even while ON ONvacation,
I find myself multi tasking & as usual working!
So the research began. What What do do do Locals Locals Locals want?
want?
What What What do do do Visitors Visitors Visitors really really really want? want? want? Placing oneself
in someone else’s footsteps is generally a good
idea. It forces introspection and awareness -
“thinking outside the box” is the common albeit
overly used term these days! I dare say most
locals (unless they happen to own and operate a
Tybee business) would prefer to keep our little
island paradise all to themselves! However,
without the great tax revenues generated from all
of the second home and vacation rental
properties, many couldn’t afford to live on Tybee.
The Stevens-Day Bill couldn’t exist without
tourism generated revenue! Money to finance the
city has to come from somewhere. O.K., that said,
everyone repeat after me: “THANK YOU,
TOURISTS! THANK YOU, BURKE DAY (one (one (one (one (one of of of of of
Tybee’s Tybee’s Tybee’s Tybee’s Tybee’s favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite son’s)!” son’s) son’s) son’s) son’s) !” Oh, no - don’t stop
now - repeat five hundred times until you really get
the hang of it! Not convinced? Take a look out
your window or walk the few steps (from
anywhere) to the beach, river, or creek - get the
picture? “THANK YOU, TOURISTS! THANK

certainly can be hard headed!
O.K, tourism is a must; that established - just what
DO visitors want? Vacation always turns me into
an accidental tourist! I find myself seeking exactly
the same things Tybee visitors’ desire; safe, clean
R&R, as well as genuine LOCAL LOCAL COLOR
COLOR
COLOR
& & FLAVOR! FLAVOR! Mountain views, local Art, and
great food were on my agenda! What about my
diet, some might query? I am decidedly taking a tip
from Miss Scarlet - “I’ll think about that tomorrow!”
