used to have the Stand and Snack. One of my
friends often asks me if I’m going to the Choke and
Puke (sorry, y’all) for lunch. The previously
mentioned Kathamy and the O. Jays and I came
up with the Slurp and Burp. A good while back
somebody asked me why The Outback
Restaurant here on Tybee wasn’t called The On
the Side, since the entrance is not out back. I
thought that was funny. Once I gave her the
history of our Outback Restaurant, she
understood the naming better.
There are restaurants with creative names all over
the country. Some place in Florida that we sped
through one time had a Chinese restaurant named
Wok This Way. My daughter says there’s a place
near her called the Takee Outee. I think it would be
fun to have a café that specializes in gourmet
soups or stews called The Mush Room or maybe
one that serves a lot of mushrooms called the Fun
Guy. Fungi. Get it? A friend of mine told me about
a Tex Mex place named Eat it and Weep.
A lot of us remember the dark ages when there
almost NO places to eat on Tybee. And many of
wish there were more places that deliver on Tybee.
But, we’ve got good places all around, and most
are “come as you are”… which on Tybee can be
entertaining in itself. I’m thinking about
volunteering to be the food critic for the Breeze,
especially if they’ll pay for my dinner. But in the
meantime eat out and eat often.
