seeing a decrease in the number of underage
parties. Maybe it’s just because high school and
colleges are nearing the end of the current term.
We would like to think that the word has gotten
around—partying on Tybee Island could cost you
big time.
The Power’s Off On Tybee...
Yeah, this isn’t news. It seems to happen
all the time. And every time it happens, our
telephones light up like Christmas trees with
people wanting to know what happened and how
long the lights will be off.
To be completely honest with you, we do
not have a direct line to the electric company, and
Georgia Power does not have a direct line to us.
We almost never know the reason for the power
being down, and we never know how long it will
take to get it back on again. And while we’re
answering the phone and telling people this, other
people with a real emergency might be trying to get
through to us.
So we would appreciate it if, the next time
the power goes down, you please don’t call us to
ask why. Trust us, we don’t know when it will come
back on. Thank you.
As we get into the
summer season, please
remember to stop for
pedestrians on Butler
Avenue who are trying to
cross. It’s just a polite, Tybee
Island kind of thing to do. And it’s
the law.
That’s all for this month.
See you next month.
Rescue Mission
Reports
April 29, 2007
Mission called at 12:57 A.M. USCG request.
Mission Type: Normal
USCG Tybee reported a 16 foot boat was overdue
and was believed to be fishing in the Tybee Creek
area. A check of the boat landing turned up the
truck and trailer. The Coast guard reports that
“they had brief cell contact with them, and all they
knew was that all they could see was marsh.”
They went on to explain how they did not have
lights, flairs, or a flashlight and they were hard
aground.
Around 3:15 A.M. the coast guard got another call,
then dispatched their Helicopter, and us, to just
south of Dewey’s, with the help of some Aviators
we went to the head works of Carters creek and
towed them to the Crab Shack and were
welcomed home.
Results: mission successful
