Antony Crol takes with him to Holland two hundred and fifty-five whole beavers, one hundred<br />

and thirty-one half-beavers, and fifty-two thirds, which beavers also belong to Philip Jansen in<br />

partnership, and Antony Crol remains bound to render an account of his administration.<br />

It is expressly stipulated that each of the partners must bear his own expenses of everything as far as<br />

he is personally concerned, without being at liberty to charge them to the other’s account.<br />

In witness whereof this is signed by them in the record and two copies of like tenor are made hereof,<br />

the 17th of October 1646, New Amsterdam, New Netherland.<br />

[Bond of Dirck Claessen Boot to Gysbert Cornelissen from Weesp<br />

for tavern expenses]<br />

[150g] Before me, Cornelis van Tienhoven, secretary of New Netherland, residing in Fort<br />

Amsterdam, appeared Dirck Clasen Boot, of Munnikedam, who in the presence of the undersigned<br />

witnesses acknowledges that he is well and truly indebted to Gysbert Cornelissen, from Wesop, 285<br />

or his heirs, in the sum of two hundred and eighty-four Carolus guilders for consumed liquors and<br />

victuals, which sum he, Dirck Clasen, promises to pay within one year from date or, if he does not<br />

return here from his voyage to the West Indies with the frigate La Garce within the aforesaid time,<br />

he shall have another year’s time and, if he happens to return here within the specified time, the<br />

aforesaid Dirck Clasen shall be bound to tender and pay the above mentioned sum here free of costs<br />

and charges. Furthermore, the aforesaid Dirck Clasen promises that if he should happen to die on<br />

the voyage the most readily available means and effects which he, Dirck Clasen, shall leave in the<br />

fatherland shall be Gysbert Cornelissen’s or his order’s security. As security for the performance<br />

hereof the aforesaid Dirck Clasen Boot binds his person and property, movable and immovable,<br />

present and future, without any exception, submitting the same to the control of all lords, courts,<br />

tribunals and judges. In witness whereof this is signed by Dirck Clasen Boot, as principal, and by<br />

Fiscal Cornelio van[der] Hoykens and Augustyn Heerman, as witnesses, the 17th of October anno<br />

Wesop is an old form for Weesp, a small city 8 miles S.E. of Amsterdam.<br />
