[Deed from Adam Roelantsen to Govert Aertsen of<br />

a house and lot on Manhattan Island]<br />

[153b] This day, date underwritten, before me, Cornelis van Tienhoven, secretary in New<br />

Netherland, appeared Adam Roelantsen, who in the presence of and before the undersigned<br />

witnesses declared that he had transferred and conveyed to Govert Aertsen in true and absolute<br />

ownership a lot and house standing and situated next to Philip Geraerdi’s lot, in virtue of the<br />

patent granted by the honorable director and council of New Netherland to Adam Roelantsen,<br />

dated the seventh of August anno 1643, with all the right, title and interest which he, Adam<br />

Roelantsen, has in and to the aforesaid house and lot. It is stipulated that Govert Aertsen shall be<br />

bound to pay whatever the lord 293 may herafter demand in the way of taxes and charges.<br />

Wherefore the grantor places the aforesaid Govert Aertsen in his estate, real and actual<br />

possession of the aforesaid house and lot, with power to dispose thereof as he, Govert Aertsen,<br />

shall think proper and expedient; he, the grantor, promising furthermore to free the said house<br />

and lot from all claims to be made thereto by any one, delivering the same free from all<br />

encumbrances. In witness whereof this is signed by the grantor and the witnesses hereto invited,<br />

the 2nd of December anno 1646, in New Amsterdam in New Netherland.<br />

[153c] Before me, Cornelis van Tienhoven, secretary of New Netherland, appeared Jan Golsteyn,<br />

from Londen, 294 who sailed in the ship Groeningen in December anno 1644, and in the presence<br />

of the undersigned witnesses declared that he appointed and empowered, as he does hereby,<br />

Hendric Antonissen to ask, demand and collect from the honorable directors of the General<br />
