of 160 km/h, the TGS driven by
European Truck Racing
champion, Jochen Hahn, is
some machine! inmotion lets
you peek inside the cab.
Jochen Hahn, the incumbent European
Truck Racing champion, was able to depend on his brawny
TGS throughout the entire season last year. Whenever things
got dicey, Hahn could use every last bit of power in the
vehicle and push his way to the front. The engineers in
Nuremburg focused on engine electronics when they worked
on the five-tonne TGS 18.480 with its 1,100 hp engine and
top speed of 160 km/h. “We were able to optimise the
torque,” reveals Artur Klein, who is responsible for getting
the power units ready for races. The result: drivers get top
engine performance over a wider range of different speeds.
Countdown to racing season
A peek inside the cab of the TGS reveals that the pedals
and instruments are very different to those used by normal
truckers. The cab looks more like the cockpit of a Formula
1 car. The large picture shows the many buttons and levers
Hahn uses during a race. Now he’s counting down the days
until he will be called upon to defend his title: the new
season starts on 12 May.■
