Tennis Lessons<br />

Park and Recreation is proud to offer tennis lessons for players of all ages. For more<br />

information and to register, contact the tennis facility directly using the information below.<br />

Latta Park (Tom Sykes RC) - Midwood Tennis Academy - Juniors<br />

Classes run on a monthly basis. Students choose the same days each week to attend<br />

for the entire session. Students pay for all classes at the beginning of the session.<br />

JUNIOR CLASSES<br />

LITTLE STARS (Ages 5 - 6) - This is an introduction to the game of tennis and overall<br />

athleticism. Balance, movement and hand-eye coordination are taught and developed.<br />

SUPER STARS (Ages 6 - 8) - Players develop basic coordination and balance, and can<br />

throw and catch without assistance. Players develop forehand and backhand<br />

groundstrokes and will begin to rally. Simple game play and scoring are introduced.<br />

BIG STARS (Ages 9 - 11) - Players can hit consistent forehand and backhand<br />

groundstrokes. Serves, returns, volleys and overheads are introduced. Class focus in on<br />

rally skills, basic match play, strategy and scoring.<br />

ADULT CLASSES<br />

LEVEL I (Beginner – 2.5 )- This clinic is for new players or those who have not played in a<br />

while. Focus is on general fundamentals, learning to rally and keep score.<br />

LEVEL II (2.5 – 3.5)- Players can rally, but are looking to gain consistency and develop<br />

weapons. Focus on point play, match strategy, aerobic activity and fun.<br />

LEVEL III 3.5 – 4.5) - Players play regular matches on leagues, teams or<br />

challenge ladders. Focus on continued development of weapons, advanced<br />

strategies and conditioning.<br />

CARDIO TENNIS (2.0 – 5.0) - For players of all levels. A very intense hour long workout<br />

where players hit balls and do a lot of moving. Dynamic movement and agility drills as<br />

well as some plyometic exercises will be used.<br />
