This hiking club for kids is about getting outside,
exploring nature, and having fun! Our muddy
boots will take us on-trail, off-trail, through
streams, and all around Latta. Each participant
will receive a nature journal to record their
discoveries in, take home, and bring back with
them on their next hike.

Geocaching Adventure Series
If you like treasure hunting, then this adventure
series is for you! Come learn about Geocaching,
a high tech treasure hunt, for the first time or
learn new details of this exciting outdoor hobby.
We will travel to four different nature preserves
to find new and interesting caches. Nature
Preserves include Latta Plantation, McDowell,
Reedy Creek and Ribbon Walk. All equipment
provided. Please bring water and a snack.

Home School Adventure Hikes
In this hiking series, we will travel by park van
to some of North Carolina’s premier hiking
destinations. Students will learn some basic
map reading skills as well as safety practices
for day-hikes. Students should come prepared
with a bag lunch (that does not require
refrigeration), a small backpack, water bottle,
light snack, weather appropriate clothing, and
sturdy shoes/boots. This is a great way to enjoy
the warm spring weather, get some exercise,
and explore the excellent hiking available in
close proximity to Charlotte.

Ecology Series
All life on Earth is wonderfully complex and
connected. Ecologists study these connections
and attempt to unravel and understand them -
including how humans fit in! In this 6-class series,
students will learn about various ecosystems,
the plants and animals that inhabit them, and
the ecological processes that make life possible.
Each class is inquiry-based and hands-on with
a focus on field studies and labs. Curriculum is
appropriate for 4th - 6th grade and all materials
are provided.
