Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation
Therapeutic Recreation
The Therapeutic Recreation Section of the Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department seeks to provide therapeutic
recreation services to individuals who have disabilities. We focus on abilities rather than disabilities and encourage people to
attain their highest level of independent leisure functioning by increasing leisure, social and communication skills, increasing
independent living skills and their awareness and involvement in community and recreational activities. We advocate for and
ensure inclusive opportunities in all programs and services and act on behalf of individuals with disabilities by promoting
accessibility at all Department parks, facilities, programs, special events and classes.
