Dear Mecklenburg County Residents, On behalf of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, I would like to welcome you to the Spring 2013 issue of the Get Going Guide. This issue features information on programs and events happening in Spring 2013 and also has a new, easy-to-navigate Summer Camps section. This program guide, serving Mecklenburg County, is published on a quarterly basis. Our new format allows for fresher content and easier methods of registration since the guide is linked directly to our EParks registration area. You’ll also notice that each web address shown can be simply clicked on to obtain more information. Along the same lines, all email addresses shown can be clicked on to send inquiries quickly and easily. Our goal is to continue enhancing the guide by adding even more hyperlinks, feature stories and videos to really showcase what Park and Recreation has to offer. Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Park & Rec News Park and Rec Rolls Out Olympic-Caliber Track at JCSU Want to test your running speed on the same track as an Olympic athlete? Thanks to a newly resurfaced track at Johnson C. Smith University, you won’t have to leave Charlotte to do it. The new track surface was laid last summer using material made by Mondo, an Italian company that has provided all the tracks at the main Olympic stadiums since 1992. The track is truly a community resource. It is used by the track team at Johnson C. Smith, by the Charlotte Flights Track & Field Club, by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation for its “Win With Integrity” program, and by the community. Except on “meet days,” two lanes are kept free and open for residents from 6 a.m. until dusk, seven days a week.
