product name In <strong>opsi</strong> V3 this is the full name of a product (allowing blanks).<br />
Example for a product name: 'Adobe Acrobat Reader'.<br />
PXE Preboot eXecution Environment: common standard for bootproms.<br />
Usually ->DHCP (not ->bootp) is used with PXE bootproms.<br />
SAMBA Open source software to provide services on Unix/Linux servers for<br />
the ->SMB protocol (used by Microsoft clients).<br />
Server product An <strong>opsi</strong> product which is executing installations on the server only<br />
(containing no installable client software).<br />
SMB Server Message Block: Protocol by Microsoft to support network<br />
shares and authentication. Recently also named CIFS (Common<br />
Internet File System).<br />
Subnets In case of large local networks it often makes sense to divide it into<br />
subnets. To do this, an arbitrary sized part of the machine address<br />
within the IP is defined to be the subnet. In this case the IP address<br />
has three parts: network, subnet and machine. The subnet mask<br />
determines which part of the IP remains machine specific by setting<br />
these bits in the subnet mask to zero and the bits for the network<br />
and subnetwork to one.<br />
TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol: is originated from<br />
the Unix world and has become the base protocol for all kinds of<br />
internet communication. All the services for web, email, file transfer<br />
etc. are based on TCP/IP.<br />
tftpd tftp (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) is a file transfer protocol (based<br />
on -> TCP/IP) without interactive login. The file transfer is managed<br />
by the tftpd (tftp daemon). For security reasons tftpd has limited<br />
access to the file system and may only transfer files from a<br />
dedicated directory (usually '/tftboot'). The files to be transferred<br />
