dé-légendés
Les portraits dé-légendés qui sont
une des grilles de lecture parmi les
plus importantes de la Demeure
du Chaos connaissent une étrange
destinée.
Dans un premier temps, je réalise
et codifie les portraits que je pressens
pour une histoire future dans
la presse écrite et audiovisuelle.
L’absence de légende, sur les murs
de la Demeure du Chaos, fait des
portraits une mise en abîme. Ensuite,
étrangement, d’année en
année, avec nos 1 200 portraits essentiellement
géopolitiques, de
Our uncaptioned external mural
portraits one of the most important
prisms for interpreting the
Abode of Chaos – are experiencing
a bizarre destiny.
First of all, I make and then codify
the portraits of people I suspect
will have a future history in
the printed press and broadcast
media. The absence of legends or
caption on the 1,200 portraits of
geopolitical figures on the walls
of the Abode of Chaos allows a
strange kind of miseenabîme effect:
year after year, numerous
major international newspapers
grands journaux internationaux
nous demandent de pouvoir reproduire
ces portraits dé-légendés,
qu’ils re-légendent. Cette
démarche originale répond aux besoins
des services d’iconographie
des grands titres de presse qui sont
souvent lassés des éternels portraits
des grandes agences de presse. Inconsciemment,
le service d’iconographie
de ces grands médias
renoue avec la tradition du portrait
qui, non seulement restitue le personnage
et son contexte, mais plus
encore, éprouve le besoin de poser
une distance par rapport à la photo
car le portrait peint possède ce
supplément d’âme que l’objectif ne
restituera jamais.
ask us for permission to reproduce
these uncaptioned portraits,
which they the recaption. This
original approach meets the needs
of the iconography services of the
big press media that are often
tired of the oftenused portraits
held by the major news agencies.
Unconsciously, the iconography
services of these major media are
reviving the tradition of the portrait
that not only restores the
character and his/her context, but
in addition, expresses the need for
a certain distance between the picture
and the viewer and possesses
that additional soul that the lens
can never reproduce.
