lon de ces petites bêtes fantasmagoriques.
Comme douées de vie,
elles occupent tout le territoire et
envahissent sol et armoires. Gravées,
tatouées elles éjectent l’idée
d’une œuvre cadrée, elles abolissent
les notions d’intérieur et
extérieur. Elles courent en s’accompagnant
de textes, le mot et
la figure en parfait tandem sur le
thème de la vie et de la mort. Ben
investit lui aussi la demeure. Et le
travail continue. Un travail de fou,
tous les jours et à plusieurs artistes.
Ils sont deux, trois, parfois cinq à
déplacer l’impossible, à mettre en
scène une page de journal, à recréer
grandeur nature un fait divers
ou fait de guerre. La demeure
est devenue poreuse au monde,
l’actualité la traverse et la transperce.
Ressemble-t-elle pour au-
tant au chaos ? Elle a beau avoir
été brûlée, virée au noir charbonneux
d’une après catastrophe, elle
garde toujours son architecture
de base et porte comme des décorations
les effets d’éventration. A
auteur.
Hauviette Bethemont, critique d’Art et
commissaire d’exposition
tions and the startling unreality of
the news. The project was conceptualised
like 1970s art. Who created
it was not important… what
mattered was the idea. The notion
of the designated space for
the creation of art no longer mattered.
Art is everywhere and it began
slowly seeping into the body
of the Domaine. The photographs
and paintings on the walls began
to overflow onto the walls. First
Thierry Ehrmann painted a salamander,
then a whole battalion of
these spooky critters. As though
endowed with life, they occupied
the whole territory and invaded
floors and cabinets. Engraved and
tattooed, they rejected the idea
of framed work and abolished notions
of inside and outside. They
28 29
ran accompanied by text the
word and figure in perfect tandem
on the theme of life and
death. The artist Ben also came
to work at the Abode. And the
work continues. A huge amount of
work every day, with various artists.
Sometimes two, sometimes
three, sometimes five, to “move
the impossible”… to stage a reallife
enactment of a page from
a newspaper… to recreate some
bit of sensational news or an act
of war. The Abode became porous
to the world, and News travels
through it, penetrates it…But does
that make it resemble chaos? The
Abode has been burnt, sections
were turned to charcoal black like
the after effects of a disaster. But
it still maintained its basic archi
tecture and it carries the scars of
its disembowelment like decorations.
In truth, the whole place
has become, if not a work, certainly
a museum. It offers the eye what
other exhibition rooms hide and
gives a view of art as something
living, part of our everyday lives.
An openair museum with more
than 4,509 works reflecting what
Thierry Ehrmann likes to call our
“tragic and sumptuous century”.
