TYPE 4 NUTS AND SEEDS<br />
Nuts and seeds are derived from a large variety of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, mostly cultivated.<br />
The mature seeds or nuts are used as human <strong>food</strong>, for the production of beverages or edible vegetable oils<br />
and for the production of seed meals and cakes for animal feed.<br />

Group 022, Tree nuts are the seeds of a variety of trees and shrubs which are characterized by a hard<br />
<strong>in</strong>edible shell enclos<strong>in</strong>g an oily seed.<br />
The seed is protected from <strong>pesticides</strong> applied dur<strong>in</strong>g the grow<strong>in</strong>g season by the shell and other parts of the<br />
fruit.<br />
The edible portion of the nut is consumed <strong>in</strong> succulent, dried or processed forms.<br />
Portion of the commodity to which the MRL applies (and which is analysed): Whole commodity after<br />
removal of shell. Chestnuts: whole <strong>in</strong> sk<strong>in</strong>.<br />
