8. Engage the emergency stop<br />

switch clip with the emergency<br />

stop switch and attempt to start<br />

the engine (be sure the water<br />

level is at least 2 inches above the<br />

anti-ventilation plate).<br />

l If the engine fails to start, re-<br />

move the spark plugs, clean<br />

and dry the electrodes, then re-<br />

install the spark plugs and at-<br />

tempt to start the engine again.<br />

l If the engine starts, and no me-<br />

chanical damage is evident,<br />

continue run the engine for a l/2<br />

hour or longer.<br />

l If there was water in the en-<br />

gine crankcase, or the used en-<br />

gine oil showed signs of water<br />

contamination, then a second<br />

engine oil change should be<br />

performed after running the en-<br />

gine for a l/2 hour.<br />

9. Take the outboard motor to your<br />

closest authorized <strong>Honda</strong> <strong>Marine</strong><br />

dealer for inspection and service<br />

as soon as possible.<br />
