Species sectione Cymosae pertinens; a L. cuprea staminibus 6-7, stipulis 6-10 mm longis, floribus 5-6 mm longis, a L. riedelii floribus in cymulis 2-3-floris dispositis, stipulis floribusque maioribus, foliis oblongo-ellipticis differt. Tree to 15 m tall, the young branches glabrous, lenticellate. Leaf lamina, oblong-elliptic, coriaceous, 5.5-9.5 x 3-4.7 cm, cuneate at base, acute Tree to 20 m tall, the young branches densely at apex, glabrous on both surfaces; midrib plane ferrugineous-tomentose. Stipules acute, ca. 0.75 mm glabrous above, with conspicuous deep-set stolong, persistent, sparsely puberulous, adnate to matal cavities beneath, filled with a lanate white base of petiole. Inflorescences of terminal and pubescence; midrib impressed for entire length subterminal branched panicles; rachis sparsely above, prominent and ferrugineous-tomentose puberulous, becoming glabrous with age, the beneath; primary veins 10-15 pairs, plane above, branches puberulous. Bracts and bracteoles ca. prominent and with a few sparse hairs beneath; 0.5 mm long, persistent, triangular, puberulous petioles 6-8 mm long, densely ferrugineous-puon exterior. Flowers 2-2.5 mm long. Receptacle bescent, canaliculate. Stipules 6-10 mm long, 1.5campanulate, sessile, sordid-tomentellous on ex- 2 mm broad at base, lanceolate, persistent, adterior, tomentose within. ESPIRITO SANTO: Reserva Florestal de Linhares, 22 May 1972 (fl), Lino 45 (NY, RB). This most distinct species belongs to section Cymosa, but has thicker peduncles bearing the cymules than in other species of that section. It 11 is closest to the Guianan species Licania cuprea, but differs in the larger flowers, larger stipules, gibbous receptacle, leaf shape, and greater number of stamens. It is one of the few species of Licania with extremely conspicuous, exposed stomatal cavities on the leafundersurface; in this
