Chrysobalanus interior Small, Man. s. e. fl. 645. 1933. Type. U.S.A. Florida: Hammocks, Long Key, Everglades, Small & Carter 3166 (lectotype, here designated, NY). The synonym C. interior was overlooked in Prance (1972) and in the treatment for the ge- neric <strong>flora</strong> of the southeastern U.S. (Prance, 1970). This name, although validly published, was not picked up in either the "Index Kewensis" or the "Gray Herbarium Card Index." There are no significant differences and C. interior falls well within the range of variation of C. icaco as cir- cumscribed in Prance (1972). The distribution of C. icaco will be found in Figure 20.2 2 Figures 20 to 155 are grouped at the end of the monograph. SYSTEMATIC TREATMENT 1. Chrysobalanus Linnaeus 1-3. Fig. 1. Species a C. cuspidato foliis coriaceis, latioribus, ramulis juvenilibus haud conspicue lenticellatis, inflorescentiis ferrugineo-pubescentibus differt. Tree to 10 m tall, the young branches sparsely puberulous to glabrescent. Leaf lamina oblongelliptic, coriaceous, 5.5-11 x 2.2-4.2 cm, cuneate at base, caudate at apex, the acumen 10- 17 mm long, glabrous and shiny above, glabrous beneath except for appressed hairs on midrib and primary veins of lower surface of very young leaves; midrib prominulous above, prominent beneath; primary veins 6-8 pairs, widely spaced, prominulous on both surfaces; petioles 2-4 mm long, terete, rugulose, glabrous. Stipules, caducous, membranous, axillary. Inflorescences of few-flowered cymules inserted on rachis to 5 cm long, the rachis and branches ferrugineous-pubescent; bracts and bracteoles ovate, membranous, puberulous on exterior, ca. 1 mm long, caducous. Flowers 3 mm long, inserted in small cymules; receptacle campanulate, tomentellous on exterior, tomentose within; calyx lobes rounded, tomentellous; petals five, ovate, glabrous; stamens 14-15, inserted around complete circle, the filaments shortly exserted, pubescent; ovary in-
