Appendix B-2<br />

Chopaka <strong>Soil</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Group<br />

Bessette (BT) series are a widespread group derived from low lying stream <strong>and</strong> river alluvium <strong>and</strong> are classified at<br />

elevations that lie between 360 <strong>and</strong> 660 metres (1,200 <strong>and</strong> 2,200 feet).<br />

Chopaka (CK) soils occur in the lowest lying portions <strong>of</strong> the Similkameen River floodplain near Keremeos <strong>and</strong> Cawston<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Okanagan River floodplain between Osoyoos <strong>and</strong> Penticton.<br />

Duteau (D) series <strong>and</strong> complex cover a minor portion <strong>of</strong> the soil map. There are a few areas in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> Waby Lake,<br />

between Lumby <strong>and</strong> Mabel Lake.<br />

Gill<strong>and</strong>ers (GS) occurs on the eastern side <strong>of</strong> the Similkameen River floodplain south <strong>of</strong> Cawston.<br />

Nisconlith (N) (N:ca) 1 soils are scattered throughout the map area except in the valley bottom north <strong>and</strong> east <strong>of</strong> Lumby.<br />

Priest Creek (PT) soils occur near Kelowna in association with Guisachan, Summerl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> P<strong>and</strong>ozy soils.<br />

Strutt (ST) soils occur in scattered, depressional to very gently sloping areas near Summerl<strong>and</strong>, Kaleden <strong>and</strong> Oliver.<br />

Gammil <strong>Soil</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Group<br />

Debeck (DE) soils are scattered throughout the map area, mainly near Oliver, Kaleden, Summerl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> East Kelowna.<br />

Ellison (EN) soils occupy a minor area near the south end <strong>of</strong> Ellison Lake.<br />

Gammil (GM) soils are common in the Okanagan Valley between Vaseaux Lake to Ellison Lake.<br />

Glenemma (G) soils were mapped along Equesis Creek, near the north end <strong>of</strong> Okanagan Lake. Other areas lie adjacent to<br />

BX Creek northeast <strong>of</strong> Vernon <strong>and</strong> along the south side <strong>of</strong> the Coldstream Valley.<br />

Nahun (H) (H:db) 1 soils occupy gravelly terraces in the natural grassl<strong>and</strong> section <strong>of</strong> the map area. The main areas occur<br />

northwest <strong>of</strong> Armstrong, south <strong>of</strong> Glenemma <strong>and</strong> in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> BX Creek.<br />

Peachl<strong>and</strong> (PA) soils occur near Trepanier, Westbank, East Kelowna <strong>and</strong> north <strong>of</strong> Ellison.<br />

Rutl<strong>and</strong> (R) soils occupy areas throughout the Okanagan Valley portion <strong>of</strong> the map area <strong>and</strong> also near Keremeos in the<br />

Similkameen Valley.<br />

Seaton (SE) soils are scattered throughout the mapped area.<br />

Glenmore <strong>Soil</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Group<br />

Boucherie (BE) soils are mapped near Westbank, Okanagan Mission <strong>and</strong> in the Glenmore Valley.<br />

Broadview (B) soils are located in the valley between Vernon <strong>and</strong> Enderby.<br />

Glenmore (GL) (GL:dg) 1 soils occur in the Glenmore Valley north <strong>of</strong> Kelowna, <strong>and</strong> near Ellison, Westbank <strong>and</strong><br />

Okanagan Mission.<br />

Plaster (PLA) soils occur north <strong>of</strong> Armstrong on the valley sides.<br />

Spallumcheen (S) (S:gl) (S:gl,ca) 1 soils occur in the North Okanagan Valley bottom between Kalamalka Lake <strong>and</strong><br />

Enderby.<br />

Tappen<br />

(T) soils are located from Spallumcheen to Swan Lake north.<br />

Westbank (WK) soils are located east <strong>of</strong> Westbank, within the Glenmore Valley north <strong>of</strong> Kelowna <strong>and</strong> near Ellison.<br />
