prothorax quadrate, with <strong>the</strong> sides rounded and crenulate, <strong>the</strong> reflexed<br />

margin variolate; elytra slightly wider than <strong>the</strong> prothorax,<br />

not very c<strong>on</strong>vex, <strong>the</strong> apex acute, moderately declivous; side margin<br />

evanescent before <strong>the</strong> apex. Length 22.5 mm. Ariz<strong>on</strong>a (Gila<br />

River). [Pelecyphorus marginatus Lee.] marginatus Lee,<br />

A- El<strong>on</strong>gate-obovate, very moderately c<strong>on</strong>vex, deep black throughout,<br />

slightly shining; head coarsely and ra<strong>the</strong>r closely punctate; antennae<br />

(c?) l<strong>on</strong>g and thick, ra<strong>the</strong>r l<strong>on</strong>ger than <strong>the</strong> prothorax, with<br />

joints nine and ten punctured throughout; prothorax fully <strong>on</strong>e-half<br />

wider than l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> sides parallel, str<strong>on</strong>gly, evenly arcuate, very<br />

finely and feebly crenulate, <strong>the</strong> surface broadly and distinctly c<strong>on</strong>vex,<br />

finely but distinctly, sparsely punctate, <strong>the</strong> side margins<br />

deplanate, not reflexed; basal pit moderate, broadly impressed;<br />

elytra three-fourths l<strong>on</strong>ger than wide, widest at two-fifths from<br />

<strong>the</strong> tip, <strong>the</strong> sides feebly c<strong>on</strong>verging <strong>the</strong>nce basally and but very<br />

slightly arcuate, rounded behind, <strong>the</strong> apical lobe broad and<br />

moderately distinct; surface simply with sparse and very distinct<br />

punctures, even, except that a distinct carinule diverges from <strong>the</strong><br />

acute margin at basal fourth, becoming gradually obsolete <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

declivity, <strong>the</strong> lateral margin ending abruptly at apical fifth;<br />

abdomen minutely, sparsely punctulate, distinctly and more closelypunctate<br />

apically; legs l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> tarsi l<strong>on</strong>g and ra<strong>the</strong>r stout.<br />

Length (cf, 9) 24.0-25.7 mm.; width 10.2-11.8 mm. Three<br />

specimens, without indicati<strong>on</strong> of locality duplicans n. subsp.<br />

B Ra<strong>the</strong>r shining, similar in its very feeble c<strong>on</strong>vexity throughout but<br />

relatively narrower and more el<strong>on</strong>gate, black aboVe and beneath,<br />

<strong>the</strong> elytra dark rufo-piceous; head similarly coarsely, ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

sparsely punctate but somewhat more sharply impressed trans-<br />

versely, <strong>the</strong> vertex also more impressed medially; antennae l<strong>on</strong>ger<br />

than <strong>the</strong> prothorax, <strong>the</strong> latter relatively much smaller than in<br />

<strong>the</strong> preceding and about a fifth wider than l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> transversely<br />

rugose reflexed side margins narrower, <strong>the</strong> sides much less and<br />

feebly arcuate; surface with <strong>the</strong> sparse punctures much less small<br />

than in <strong>the</strong> preceding, ra<strong>the</strong>r large for this secti<strong>on</strong>, somewhat in-<br />

definitely and moderately impressed; elytra about twice as l<strong>on</strong>g<br />

as wide, a third wider than <strong>the</strong> prothorax, widest but little behind<br />

<strong>the</strong> middle, <strong>the</strong> large apical lobe as in duplicans, <strong>the</strong> surface with<br />
