much more c<strong>on</strong>vex than in <strong>the</strong> preceding, distinctly alutaceous,<br />
sparsely, very finely punctate, ra<strong>the</strong>r abruptly but not very widely<br />
deplanate and transversely rugose at <strong>the</strong> sides, <strong>the</strong> plane just visibly<br />
inclined upward, <strong>the</strong> edge moderately thick and uneven; elytra<br />
two-fifths l<strong>on</strong>ger than wide, three-fifths or more wider than <strong>the</strong><br />
prothorax, widest at three-fifths, <strong>the</strong> sides arcuate throughout,<br />
rapidly rounding in posteriorly, <strong>the</strong> apical lobe relatively ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />
small; surface very even throughout, without trace of costuliform<br />
lines, more str<strong>on</strong>gly c<strong>on</strong>vex and more steeply declivous at <strong>the</strong> sides<br />
posteriorly than in caliginosus and quite evidently impressed<br />
al<strong>on</strong>g <strong>the</strong> suture except basally and apically, very str<strong>on</strong>gly shining,<br />
<strong>on</strong>ly very finely and sparsely creased, <strong>the</strong> punctures small, very<br />
sparse though ra<strong>the</strong>r deep and distinctly defined; lateral reflexed<br />
carina ending abruptly at apical fifth; abdomen polished, very<br />
minutely, remotely punctulate; legs slender; tarsi short. Length<br />
(9 ) 33.0 mm.; width 12.2 mm. Ariz<strong>on</strong>a (Baboquivari Mts.).<br />

10 Form moderately stout, decidedly c<strong>on</strong>vex, black, <strong>the</strong> entire elytra dark<br />
red-brown; head impressed, str<strong>on</strong>gly but sparsely punctate; prothorax<br />
large, a third to two-fifths wider than l<strong>on</strong>g, three-fourths (a 71<br />
) to threefifths<br />
( 9 ) as wide as <strong>the</strong> elytra, parallel and very moderately arcuate<br />
at <strong>the</strong> sides, shining, subalutaceous, str<strong>on</strong>gly c<strong>on</strong>vex, minutely and<br />
sparsely punctate, <strong>the</strong> sides reflexed and coarsely, transversely rugose;<br />
basal impressi<strong>on</strong> ra<strong>the</strong>r transverse, well marked; elytra twothirds<br />
l<strong>on</strong>ger than wide, more oval and rounded at <strong>the</strong> sides in <strong>the</strong><br />
female, widest behind <strong>the</strong> middle, <strong>the</strong> apical lobe short but evident,<br />
obtuse; surface str<strong>on</strong>gly, evenly c<strong>on</strong>vex transversely, closely rugose<br />
and not or but feebly shining, each with three low obtuse discal<br />
costae, <strong>the</strong> outer joining <strong>the</strong> margin at basal fourth or fifth, <strong>the</strong> first<br />
and sec<strong>on</strong>d approximate at base, uniting <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> declivity, <strong>the</strong> single<br />
feeble line <strong>the</strong>n joined by <strong>the</strong> third ridge; sutural margin also subsimilarly<br />
elevated, nearly smooth, diverging from <strong>the</strong> suture basally<br />
and joining <strong>the</strong> first costa at <strong>the</strong> basal margin; intervals elevated,<br />
more or less al<strong>on</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir median lines, sometimes forming broader<br />
and feebler costae; side margin ending at apical fifth; abdomen finely,<br />
sparsely punctate and also with extremely minute, close-set punctulati<strong>on</strong>;<br />
legs moderate, <strong>the</strong> tarsi shorter in <strong>the</strong> female as usual.<br />

Elytra very roughly, coarsely and densely punctato-rugose. Mod-<br />
erately ventricose and flattened above, dark piceous-brown throughout;<br />
head ra<strong>the</strong>r feebly impressed, coarsely, deeply, ra<strong>the</strong>r closely<br />
punctate; prothorax dull in lustre, two-thirds as wide as <strong>the</strong> elytra<br />
in both sexes, two-fifths wider than l<strong>on</strong>g, broadly and moderately<br />
c<strong>on</strong>vex, coarsely, deeply, closely but unevenly punctate, with a very<br />
feeble and obsolete impressi<strong>on</strong> at each lateral fourth just behind <strong>the</strong><br />
middle, <strong>the</strong> basal impressi<strong>on</strong> deep and distinct; sides parallel, moderately<br />
arcuate and reflexed, coarsely, transversely rugose, <strong>the</strong><br />
edges finely, irregularly crenulate; elytra faintly shining, widest
