wide as l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> two anterior teeth small, <strong>the</strong> basal angles right,<br />

feebly upturned and obtusely subprominent; punctures fine and<br />

sparse, but little larger laterally; base broadly, feebly arcuate medially,<br />

<strong>the</strong> sublateral sinuses ra<strong>the</strong>r deep; scutellum very obtuse;<br />

elytra barely three-fifths l<strong>on</strong>ger than wide, about a third wider than<br />

<strong>the</strong> prothorax, parallel, with but feebly arcuate sides which c<strong>on</strong>verge<br />

but very slightly near <strong>the</strong> broadly obtuse apex; punctures ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

large, deep, impressed and stellate, close-set posteriorly, smaller<br />

and sparser basally, <strong>the</strong> raised lines fine but distinct; sterna densely<br />

pubescent; abdomen glabrous and yellowish, <strong>the</strong> apical margin<br />

of all <strong>the</strong> segments very finely piceous; tarsi slender. A<br />

-Much smaller and relatively narrower though similar in colorati<strong>on</strong><br />

and sculpture, <strong>the</strong> antennae (c?) less el<strong>on</strong>gate, extending but<br />

slightly behind <strong>the</strong> middle of <strong>the</strong> elytra; prothorax similar but much<br />

shorter, two and <strong>on</strong>e-half times as wide as l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> hind angles<br />

less blunt but not prominent; elytra more than three-fourths<br />

l<strong>on</strong>ger than wide, about a fourth wider than <strong>the</strong> prothorax, similarly<br />

parallel, <strong>the</strong> two inner raised lines str<strong>on</strong>ger; tarsi still more<br />

slender, <strong>the</strong> posterior more lineiform, with <strong>the</strong> sec<strong>on</strong>d joint sub-<br />

parallel and twice as l<strong>on</strong>g as wide. Length (cf) 27.5 mm.; width<br />

10.0 mm. A single male without indicati<strong>on</strong> of locality.<br />

mimus n. subsp.<br />

Form nearly as in imbricornis, very parallel though narrower,<br />

similar in color but with coarser and much str<strong>on</strong>ger elytral sculpture;<br />

antennae (cf) extending to apical fourth of <strong>the</strong> elytra; head<br />

small; prothorax still shorter than in mimus, more nearly three<br />

times as wide as l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> median tooth relatively l<strong>on</strong>ger and very<br />

acute, <strong>the</strong> anterior smaller and <strong>on</strong>ly obtusely prominent, <strong>the</strong> sides<br />

behind <strong>the</strong> middle tooth more c<strong>on</strong>verging to <strong>the</strong> basal angles,<br />

which are right and not everted though very sharp; lateral sinuses<br />

of <strong>the</strong> base much shallower than in ei<strong>the</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> preceding; elytra<br />

nearly three-fourths l<strong>on</strong>ger than wide, more than a fourth wider<br />

than <strong>the</strong> prothorax, very parallel, rapidly rounding at apex, <strong>the</strong><br />

latter very obtusely rounded; punctures notably large, deeply<br />

impressed, ra<strong>the</strong>r close but irregular, smaller basally, <strong>the</strong> surface<br />

more shining than in <strong>the</strong> two preceding, <strong>the</strong> two inner raised<br />

lines str<strong>on</strong>g; hind tarsi very slender, <strong>the</strong> pads beneath as in o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

forms of this subgenus, much narrower and less dense than in<br />

Pri<strong>on</strong>us proper, <strong>the</strong> sulcus relatively wider. Length (c?) 25.0<br />

mm.; width 9.6 mm. North Carolina (Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Pines), Manee.<br />

brunneus n. subsp.<br />

Eyes much more distant, separated by three-fifths to nearly three-fourths<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir own width; head black, rufescent anteriorly, <strong>the</strong> prothorax dark<br />

testaceous, <strong>the</strong> elytra much less str<strong>on</strong>gly sculptured and of a pale<br />

tawny-yellow color, sometimes feebly rufescent basally. Body narrow,<br />

small in size, <strong>the</strong> elytra evidently narrowed from base to apex,<br />

with feebly arcuate sides and not parallel or nearly so as in <strong>the</strong> three
