and somewhat ill-defined, without carinules except <strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>e verynear<br />

<strong>the</strong> margin joining <strong>the</strong> latter near basal fourth, which is<br />

however much feebler and more disintegrated than in ditplicans;<br />

abdomen nearly similar; tarsi l<strong>on</strong>g. Length (cf) 25.0 mm.;<br />

width 10.5 mm. California (Yuma, San Diego Co.).<br />

as in duplicans (9) but notably more c<strong>on</strong>vex and ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

str<strong>on</strong>gly shining, black, <strong>the</strong> elytra rufo-piceous; head similarly<br />

coarsely, loosely punctate; antennae nearly similar; prothorax similar<br />

in size and outline but not evenly, moderately c<strong>on</strong>vex transversely<br />

as in duplicans but, <strong>on</strong> posterior profile view, more str<strong>on</strong>gly and<br />

parabolically c<strong>on</strong>vex, <strong>the</strong> small sparse punctures a little larger and<br />

<strong>the</strong> extremely minute punctulati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> interspaces more evident;<br />

side margins broader and deplanate; basal impressi<strong>on</strong> narrower and<br />

deeper; elytra (9) not quite <strong>on</strong>e-half wider than <strong>the</strong> prothorax,<br />

less el<strong>on</strong>gate, much more c<strong>on</strong>vex, more oval or with more rounded<br />

sides than in <strong>the</strong> two preceding and w r ith <strong>the</strong> apical lobe narrower,<br />

more prominent and more abruptly formed; surface even throughout,<br />

more declivous at <strong>the</strong> sides, without trace of <strong>the</strong> submarginal<br />

carinule, <strong>the</strong> lateral margin similar ; legs l<strong>on</strong>g and slender. Length ( 9 )<br />

head and prothorax relativelyless<br />

developed, deep black throughout and shining; head with <strong>the</strong><br />

usual str<strong>on</strong>g separated punctures; prothorax scarcely more than a<br />

third wider than l<strong>on</strong>g, evenly c<strong>on</strong>vex transversely, finely, sparsely,<br />

often evanescently punctate; sides not broadly but str<strong>on</strong>gly reflexed,<br />

<strong>the</strong> basal impressi<strong>on</strong> very feeble and transversely diffuse; elytra<br />

two-thirds l<strong>on</strong>ger than wide, widest well behind <strong>the</strong> middle, <strong>the</strong><br />

sides ra<strong>the</strong>r str<strong>on</strong>gly c<strong>on</strong>verging and broadly rounded <strong>the</strong>nce to<br />

<strong>the</strong> base, obtuse posteriorly, with <strong>the</strong>. apical lobe ra<strong>the</strong>r abrupt and<br />

moderate; surface c<strong>on</strong>vex laterally, ra<strong>the</strong>r flattened or impressed<br />

suturally, smooth, with a few coarse creases, <strong>the</strong> punctures sparse,<br />

ra<strong>the</strong>r str<strong>on</strong>g, each with two fine and vestigial costules and ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

al<strong>on</strong>g and close to <strong>the</strong> suture, which is flexed outwardly basally<br />

joining <strong>the</strong> first costule at <strong>the</strong> basal margin; first and sec<strong>on</strong>d costules,<br />

<strong>the</strong> latter almost obsolete, joining each o<strong>the</strong>r posteriorly; lateral<br />

margins fine but str<strong>on</strong>g, ending abruptly near apical fourth ;<br />

abdomen<br />

and legs as usual, <strong>the</strong> tarsi ra<strong>the</strong>r more slender. Length (9 ) 23.7-<br />

Form very stout and ventricose, somewhat as in <strong>the</strong> preceding but much<br />

more abbreviated, deep black throughout and shining; head broadly<br />

and moderately impressed transversely, deeply, ra<strong>the</strong>r coarsely and<br />

sparsely punctate; antennae l<strong>on</strong>g and well developed, stout as usual;<br />

prothorax transverse, nearly <strong>on</strong>e-half wider than l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> subparallel<br />

sides evenly, ra<strong>the</strong>r str<strong>on</strong>gly arcuate; apex much narrower than <strong>the</strong><br />

base and deeply, circularly sinuate, <strong>the</strong> angles ra<strong>the</strong>r blunt ;<br />

surface
