and closely punctate but with <strong>the</strong> punctures more rapidly smaller<br />

and fine apically, <strong>the</strong> sparse vestiture but feebly and loosely<br />

nucleated; fifth ventral nearly semicircular. Length (9) 12.0<br />

mm.; width 2.5 mm. Canada (Ontario). .. canadensis n. subsp.<br />

B Nearly similar to <strong>the</strong> preceding in general form but larger, piceousblack,<br />

<strong>the</strong> elytra brighter testaceous, <strong>the</strong> legs and antennae dark<br />

red-brown; antennae (9) two-thirds as l<strong>on</strong>g as <strong>the</strong> body, very<br />

slender, finely, sparsely punctured basally, with moderate spines,<br />

<strong>the</strong> third joint a little l<strong>on</strong>ger than <strong>the</strong> fourth and corresp<strong>on</strong>dingly<br />

shorter than <strong>the</strong> first, which is more densely pubescent; prothorax<br />

(9 ) about as l<strong>on</strong>g as wide, <strong>the</strong> sides parallel but broadly, feebly<br />

angulate at or just behind <strong>the</strong> middle, dull in lustre, <strong>the</strong> punctures<br />

much smaller than usual in <strong>the</strong> female and very dense, with a small<br />

impunctate area behind <strong>the</strong> centre, <strong>the</strong> pubescence short, coarse,<br />

closely decumbent, ra<strong>the</strong>r abundant, nubilously aggregated toward<br />

<strong>the</strong> sides and al<strong>on</strong>g <strong>the</strong> median line anteriorly; scutellum moderate;<br />

elytra parallel, more than three times as l<strong>on</strong>g as wide, two-fifths<br />

wider than <strong>the</strong> prothorax, <strong>the</strong> sinus at <strong>the</strong> tips as in <strong>the</strong> preceding<br />

but ra<strong>the</strong>r larger, <strong>the</strong> punctures but very little larger though much<br />

deeper than those of <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>on</strong>otum, well separated, smaller but<br />

distinct apically; fifth ventral very broadly and feebly arcuate at<br />

apex. Length (9 ) 14.5 mm.; width 3.1 mm. Florida.<br />

densicollis n. subsp.<br />

Male with <strong>the</strong> densely and finely punctate pr<strong>on</strong>otum even, except a<br />

narrow short impunctate line just behind <strong>the</strong> centre; elytral apices<br />

as in villosus 8<br />

8 Male with <strong>the</strong> fifth ventral broadly and evenly rounded. Body very<br />

slender, parallel, pale red-brown, <strong>the</strong> elytra, legs and antennas ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

paler and testaceous; head with ra<strong>the</strong>r small, close punctures and<br />

a flat glabrous impunctate median line posteriorly, becoming finely<br />

impressed anteriorly; antennae (cf ) very slender, not quite as l<strong>on</strong>g<br />

as <strong>the</strong> body, loosely and not coarsely punctate, with small spines,<br />

<strong>the</strong> third joint slightly l<strong>on</strong>ger than <strong>the</strong> fourth and almost as l<strong>on</strong>g as<br />

<strong>the</strong> first; prothorax slightly wider than l<strong>on</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> sides broadly but<br />

sharply angulate at <strong>the</strong> middle, <strong>the</strong>nce ra<strong>the</strong>r str<strong>on</strong>gly c<strong>on</strong>vergent<br />

and straight to <strong>the</strong> base and less c<strong>on</strong>vergent and also perfectly<br />

straight to <strong>the</strong> apex, which is evidently wider than <strong>the</strong> base; surface<br />

very finely, densely and evenly though shallowly and irregularly<br />

punctate and dull, <strong>the</strong> pale yellowish hairs sparse but c<strong>on</strong>densed into<br />

a subeven narrow sublateral line, bending outward slightly, from<br />

<strong>the</strong> apical margin to behind <strong>the</strong> middle, this line from <strong>the</strong> middle to<br />

<strong>the</strong> base feebly subtumid, more coarsely punctate and again pubescent<br />

at base; elytra parallel, more than three times as l<strong>on</strong>g as wide,<br />

<strong>on</strong>ly very little wider than <strong>the</strong> prothorax, <strong>the</strong> punctures moderately<br />

close and str<strong>on</strong>g, smaller apically, <strong>the</strong> vestiture ra<strong>the</strong>r sparse, feebly<br />

c<strong>on</strong>densed. Length n.o mm.; width 2.4 mm. A single unlabeled<br />

male from <strong>the</strong> Levette collecti<strong>on</strong> defectus n. sp.<br />
