Most drugs that are marketed are chiral. That’s an extreme case. <strong>The</strong> less extreme case is that one has medicinal<br />

properties and the other has no properties whatsoever. And then there are other cases where they might have<br />

opposite properties. One might be good for the heart and the other one is good just as a sedative, you know.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y even taste, some drugs taste different, you know. If you had different forms of sugar one might be sour or<br />

something and the other one might taste sweet. <strong>The</strong> body is able to recognize these differences because it is a<br />

chiral environment. In the normal sort of chemical reactions it doesn’t matter which is which… I’m developing<br />

techniques to separate these molecules.<br />
