231-235 Hieratic Gang B<br />
This is a group <strong>of</strong> five Third Intermediate Period shabtis from the same troop. All are<br />
made from blue faience with black pa<strong>in</strong>ted details <strong>of</strong> two stylised hoes <strong>and</strong> a fillet on<br />
the front <strong>of</strong> the head. Some have a trapezoidal basket without straps, another likewise<br />
but with two straps while one has a square basket with v-shaped straps. In all cases<br />
the baskets are unhatched. In terms <strong>of</strong> general appearance most are short <strong>and</strong> wide but<br />
two are dist<strong>in</strong>ctly taller <strong>and</strong> th<strong>in</strong>ner.<br />
All have two rows <strong>of</strong> black pa<strong>in</strong>ted hieratic text on the front.<br />
There is a sixth shabti which almost certa<strong>in</strong>ly comes from the same troop but which<br />
has either lost its <strong>in</strong>scription or was un<strong>in</strong>scribed (1969W1140).<br />
All were transferred from the Wellcome collection <strong>in</strong> 1969.<br />
