<strong>Catalogue</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Inscribed</strong> <strong>Shabtis</strong> <strong>in</strong> Birm<strong>in</strong>gham <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Gallery</strong><br />

Bluish-green faience discoloured on feet <strong>and</strong> head.<br />

Intact.<br />

Relatively poorly modelled with crude features <strong>and</strong> no f<strong>in</strong>e detail.<br />

Arms crossed right over left, sleeves just <strong>in</strong>dicated.<br />

Left h<strong>and</strong> holds pick without cross-bar, right h<strong>and</strong> a narrow hoe. Wears<br />

tripartite lappet wig, the back <strong>in</strong>dicated simply by <strong>in</strong>cised l<strong>in</strong>e through<br />

back pillar <strong>and</strong> long curved beard. Square-hatched trapezoidal basket<br />

over left shoulder.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>gle column <strong>of</strong> impressed text down front, borders at sides.<br />

Late Period<br />

16 Iah-my <strong>and</strong> Mty<br />

Dark grey/black stone.<br />

Well preserved, but lower legs <strong>and</strong> feet restored on male figure.<br />

Well modelled <strong>and</strong> excellent workmanship; a few f<strong>in</strong>e polish<strong>in</strong>g scratches rema<strong>in</strong>, <strong>and</strong><br />

the back has been left flat <strong>and</strong> unmodelled.<br />

Double shabti with male <strong>and</strong> female figures. No h<strong>and</strong>s, therefore no implements.<br />

Incised detail - s<strong>in</strong>gle l<strong>in</strong>e to represent collar. Male figure wears pla<strong>in</strong> New K<strong>in</strong>gdom<br />

wig; female a larger striated wig with bunches at end <strong>and</strong> central part<strong>in</strong>g. Eyes with<br />

eyebrows.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>gle column <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>cised text down front <strong>of</strong> both figures with borders at either side.<br />

The mascul<strong>in</strong>e name is dubious due to the break but see Ranke<br />

-my. The fem<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>e name looks as though it beg<strong>in</strong>s with m but a read<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Tti could also be possible (Ranke PNI, 395).<br />
