Miscellanea<br />

253 Model c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong> mummy, name illegible<br />

Model c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong> mummy.<br />

C<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> made <strong>of</strong> bright blue faience, mummy <strong>of</strong> wood l<strong>in</strong>en <strong>and</strong> plaster.<br />

C<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> base re-jo<strong>in</strong>ed through centre <strong>and</strong> lid through feet; nose broken <strong>of</strong>f <strong>and</strong> surface<br />

very pitted. Plaster on face <strong>of</strong> mummy chipped.<br />

The model anthropomorphic c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> is well modelled but the features are <strong>in</strong>dist<strong>in</strong>ct; it<br />

wears a lappet wig <strong>and</strong> fancy impressed collar.<br />

The shabti consists <strong>of</strong> l<strong>in</strong>en b<strong>and</strong>ages over a wood core. The head area is plastered<br />

<strong>and</strong> has polychrome decoration; red face with full eyes pa<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>in</strong> white <strong>and</strong> outl<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

<strong>in</strong> black, black eyebrows, lappet wig outl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> black <strong>and</strong> filled with what is now<br />

pale green pa<strong>in</strong>t <strong>and</strong> a five str<strong>and</strong> collar <strong>in</strong> black between the lappets <strong>of</strong> the wig.<br />

There is an illegible column <strong>of</strong> impressed text down the front <strong>of</strong> the c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> lid with<br />

border to top <strong>and</strong> sides <strong>and</strong> an illegible column <strong>of</strong> text <strong>in</strong> black <strong>in</strong>k down the front <strong>of</strong><br />

the body <strong>of</strong> the mummy.<br />

Both made <strong>of</strong> crude red pottery.<br />

C<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> base re-jo<strong>in</strong>ed through centre, lid re-jo<strong>in</strong>ed from three fragments <strong>and</strong> only the<br />

head <strong>and</strong> torso survive.<br />

Deep c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> the sides <strong>of</strong> which were decorated with red <strong>and</strong> yellow vertical stripes,<br />

now much faded. The facial features on the lid are very <strong>in</strong>dist<strong>in</strong>ct. The front wig<br />

lappets are pa<strong>in</strong>ted yellow with red b<strong>and</strong>s. Both upper <strong>and</strong> lower arms are <strong>in</strong>dicated <strong>in</strong><br />

relief. There are traces <strong>of</strong> red, white <strong>and</strong> yellow pa<strong>in</strong>t on the body.<br />

The mummy aga<strong>in</strong> has <strong>in</strong>dist<strong>in</strong>t facial features <strong>and</strong> wears a lappet wig pa<strong>in</strong>ted yellow<br />

on the front lappets <strong>and</strong> with red <strong>and</strong> yellow stripes on the back; arms are <strong>in</strong>dicated <strong>in</strong><br />

relief.<br />

There are no traces <strong>of</strong> an <strong>in</strong>scription.<br />
