Model anthropomorphic c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong> shabti.<br />

C<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> made <strong>of</strong> limestone, shabti <strong>of</strong> alabaster.<br />

C<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>tact; foot broken <strong>and</strong> right arm <strong>and</strong> shoulder<br />

damaged on shabti.<br />

The c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> lid has a lappet wig, no h<strong>and</strong>s. The shabti<br />

has a lappet wig, slightly longer at the back than the<br />

front but no h<strong>and</strong>s or implements. The face is made<br />

from more crystall<strong>in</strong>e alabaster <strong>and</strong> appears to have<br />

been added separately.<br />

Both the c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> lid <strong>and</strong> the shabti have a s<strong>in</strong>gle column<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>cised text down the front. The c<strong>of</strong>f<strong>in</strong> lid orig<strong>in</strong>ally<br />

had red borders, the shabti <strong>in</strong>cised ones. Both texts are<br />

identical:<br />

Bright blue faience<br />

Well preserved.<br />

Fairly crude workmanship with <strong>in</strong>dist<strong>in</strong>ct modell<strong>in</strong>g on face; head bent slightly to one<br />

side.<br />

Black pa<strong>in</strong>ted details - two hoes, straight l<strong>in</strong>e mouth, open eyes, eyebrows. Solid wig,<br />

trapezoidal basket with diamond hatch<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> two shoulder straps. Trace <strong>of</strong><br />

unidentified object pa<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>in</strong> right h<strong>and</strong>, with faded <strong>in</strong>dist<strong>in</strong>ct black area below left<br />

elbow - possibly a pa<strong>in</strong>ted seed bag?<br />
