An article called "Rare<br />

Ch<strong>in</strong>ese Newspaper Expose<br />

Details Prisoner Organ<br />

Harvests" <strong>in</strong> The Wash<strong>in</strong>gton<br />

Post reported a story <strong>in</strong> the<br />

Ch<strong>in</strong>ese press about the sale<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternal organs <strong>of</strong> people<br />

who had been executed. It<br />

concerned a former soldier<br />

who had been executed and<br />

his organs removed. It was<br />

first reported <strong>in</strong> a local<br />

Ch<strong>in</strong>ese paper, and then appeared<br />

<strong>in</strong> the Western media.<br />

(left)<br />

To the left can be seen an article<br />

that appeared <strong>in</strong> The<br />

Observer called "Ch<strong>in</strong>a sells<br />

organs <strong>of</strong> sla<strong>in</strong> convicts." The<br />

story reported that the organs<br />

were generally sold to rich patients<br />

from abroad. Based on a<br />

number <strong>of</strong> sources, the price<br />

<strong>of</strong> a kidney is <strong>in</strong> the region <strong>of</strong><br />

$10,000. The fact that thousands<br />

<strong>of</strong> people are executed<br />

<strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a every year helps to<br />

show why the Ch<strong>in</strong>ese government<br />

is so <strong>in</strong>sistent on cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the organ trade.
