Bult • Julie 2007 16 Nuus Two UFS campuses work together on a Ph.D. Meeste in Argitektuur Sestien studente van die Departement Argitektuur het die M.Arch (Prof)-graad ontvang. Dit is die meeste meestersgrade wat in die departement toegeken is. Van die studente is, van links: Illani du Plessis, Zanie van Zyl, prof. Jan Smit (Departementele voorsitter), Hendrik Auret en Shawn Gravel. Hendrik het ook die Corobrik Student van die Jaar-toekenning vir die beste finalejaarstudent in Argitektuur in Suid-Afrika ontvang. Dr George Thamae, lecturer in Sesotho Education at the National University of Lesotho, became the first student in ten years to receive a doctor’s degree from the Department of African Studies. It was also the first time that staff from this department on the Main Campus in Bloemfontein and the department on the Qwaqwa Campus worked together to produce a Ph.D. Dr Thamae’s thesis, entitled: Standardising the Sesotho orthography: A clinical investigation, serves as the basis for the proposed standardisation of the Sesotho orthography with a view to achieve a uniform system of writing for all speakers of Sesotho, both in Lesotho and in South Africa. At the graduation were, from the left: Dr Elias Malete (Acting Principal of the Qwaqwa Campus and from the Department of African Studies at the Qwaqwa Campus and co-promoter), Dr Thamae and Prof. Mohlomi Moleleki (Departmental Chairperson of the Department of African Studies on the Main Campus and promoter of Dr Thamae). Kry twee medaljes Mariska van der Mescht het twee medaljes ontvang. Die Dekaansmedalje vir die finale jaarstudent wat die beste resul tate in ’n eerste baccaluareus-graad in die Fakulteit Ekonomiese en Bestuurswetenskappe behaal het, sowel as ’n Senaatsmedalje en -prys vir die beste finalejaarstudent aan die UV is aan haar oorhandig.
Aartjie na sy... Alec Debbo, seun van die komediant, akteur en sanger Al Debbo (82), het sy B.A.-graad in Drama en Teaterkuns ontvang. Dednam-broers gradueer saam Die nasionale pluimbalkampioene Chris (links) en Roelof Dednam het albei die graad B.Sc. Rekeningkunde ontvang. Dean gets an MBA News Centenary Prof. Letticia Moja, Dean of the Faculty of Health, received an MBA degree in General Management. Trots op sy kleinseun Hendri Theron, kleinseun van prof. Neil van Loggerenberg, voormalige dekaan van die UV se Fakulteit Opvoedkunde, het ’n B.Ed.-graad ontvang. July 2007 • Bult 17
