D. AUGUSTUS
SAINT-GAUDENS:
DIANA Architect Stanford
White commissioned Augustus
Saint-Gaudens (American, 1848–
1907), one of the greatest sculptors
of his day, to create a weather vane
for the tower of Madison Square
Garden. White thought the original
18-foot gilded bronze figure, erected
in 1891, was too large, and a year later
it was replaced with a smaller version
that towered over the New York skyline
until the building was razed in 1925.
Later on, Saint-Gaudens created three
reduced variant editions of Diana
and our gleaming figure reproduces
one of these smaller versions, a
jewel of the Museum’s American
Wing. Bonded bronze, hand
patinated. 15 1/4"H x 11 1/2"L
x 5 1/4"W, including base.
MAGNOLIA
BLOSSOMS SCARF
E. NEW LOUIS C. TIFFANY MAGNOLIA BLOSSOMS
SCARF Louis C. Tiffany’s innovations in glass became the
cornerstone of his legacy. His signature Favrile glass allowed
him to “paint” with glass, achieving both great vibrancy
and great subtlety, nowhere more evident than in
his glorious Magnolias and Irises window
(ca. 1908) in the Museum’s American
Wing. Our luxurious scarf captures
the nuanced colorations of this
masterpiece. Silk crêpe de chine.
Imported. 18" x 64". 80-018270 $65
Crafts aesthetic. A drawing from this album for a leaf-motif beaded pendant is
the source for our graceful jewelry. 18K gold overlay with reconstituted beads.
