G. NEW WILLIAM MORRIS
FLORALS SCARF William Morris (British,
1834–1896) founded his eponymous firm in 1861
to design and produce a full range of household goods.
Many of his dense patterns were inspired by nature, such as
those seen in our graceful scarf. Its featured print is based on Violet
and Columbine, a wool textile, while its border is adapted from Pink
and Rose, a woodblock-printed wallpaper, both from the Museum’s
collection. Silk crêpe de chine. Imported. 18" x 64". 80-018139 $65
K–M. WILLIAM MORRIS PINK
AND ROSE ACCESSORIES Though
his mission was to marry fine design with
everyday objects of many categories, it is
William Morris’s wallpaper designs that form
the heart of his legacy. Pink and Rose, a
characteristically intricate hand-block-printed
wallpaper (ca. 1890), illustrates his belief
that beauty, imagination, and order are the
essential elements of a successful design.
This Museum original is the source for our
pretty and practical accessories. Imported.
