EGYPTIAN SNAKE
LARIAT After Egypt
came under the rule of the
Hellenistic Greeks, the snake
became an important jewelry
motif, well suited to coiling
around the neck and wrist,
and valued for its association
with Asclepius, a god of
healing. A gold snake bracelet
in the Museum’s collection
from the Macedonian and
Ptolemaic period (332–30
B.C.) has been adapted for
our dramatic lariat with an
adjustable snake. 24K gold
overlay. Lobster claw closure.
20"L. 80-013283 $225
