Onshore Operations<br />

In addition to the health promotion programs already in place, a number of new Health and Well-being initiatives<br />

were maintained and developed during 2012. These cover:<br />

Stress Management<br />

A workplace psychologist has been appointed in the Company’s Monaco office to support employees facing<br />

stress-related problems.<br />

Heat Stress<br />

A number of measures are in place to counter the effects of heat stress, particularly in countries such as the<br />

United Arab Emirates. These may include reductions in working hours, the use of cool rooms and the provision of<br />

cool water.<br />

3.7.3 Safety Management<br />

General<br />

<strong>SBM</strong> <strong>Offshore</strong> supports and invests in existing measures and new initiatives offshore and onshore, to improve its<br />

safety culture and its HSSE performance. The Company’s HSSE Charter defines the foundation for promoting a<br />

safe place of work as:<br />

• competency at all levels<br />

• effective communications<br />

• commitment from management<br />

• commitment from the work force<br />

• a proactive approach to the work taking place<br />

During <strong>2011</strong> the Company enhanced its existing safety initiatives by improving and developing the following<br />

programmes:<br />

• WISE (Workers Ideas for Safety Excellence)<br />

• <strong>SBM</strong> <strong>Offshore</strong>’s 12 Life-Saving Rules<br />

• Permit-to-Work (Carros)<br />

• Total Application of Safety Knowledge (TASK)<br />

• Safety Training Observation Program (STOP)<br />

During <strong>2011</strong>, the Company held a number of HSSE seminars. These included Group seminars in Monaco to<br />

exchange best practice and discuss relevant issues, as well as a seminar held in Singapore in October, which<br />

included participants from Group execution centres, the Monaco offices and the construction yards.<br />
