The German Drinking Water<br />

Ordinance (TrinkwV)<br />

the purpose of the ordinance is ”to protect<br />

human health from the detrimental impact<br />

resulting from the contamination of<br />

water which is intended for human use<br />

[...] by ensuring it is fit for consumption<br />

and pure“ [trinkwV 2001]. By means of<br />

the drinking water ordinance trinkwV<br />

2001, which came into force on January 1,<br />

2003 and is due for another adjustment in<br />

mid <strong>2011</strong>, the Germany-wide implementation<br />

of EU-directive 98/83/EG is achieved.<br />

this EU-directive defines, among other<br />

things, a minimum requirement regarding<br />

the number and extent of drinking water<br />

examinations.<br />
