Description<br />

• Northwest Regional Airport in Terrace, 73 km N of Kitimat , has 2<br />

runways<br />

• Air Canada Jazz & Hawkair provide at least 2 scheduled trips to<br />

Vancouver per day<br />

• Central Mountain Air provides daily scheduled trips to Prince<br />

George<br />

• Two federal aerodrome locations handle small seaplanes in and<br />

out<br />

• Also served by one local fixed wing charter company, and two<br />

helicopter operations<br />

Rail • CN Rail line from Terrace to Kitimat port (cargo)<br />

• Rail time from Kitimat to Chicago is 108 hours (2,520 miles),<br />

slightly longer than from Vancouver<br />

Port Facilities • Kitimat has deepwater passage & harbour<br />

• Port of Kitimat is privately owned and operated<br />

• Three marine terminals available for international imports and a<br />

base of operations for a full-service tugboat operator. Two of the<br />

marine terminals are single berth, while the third has double berth<br />

for handling break-bulk vessels plus a 100 tonne hydraulic RO/RO<br />

barge facility.<br />

Private/commercial vessels • Up to 300 privately owned vessels accommodated per year in<br />

Port of Kitimat<br />

• Cargos handled by Private Port of Kitimat terminal operators<br />

include alumina, green and petroleum coke, aluminum,<br />

condensate, methanol, sackkraft and linerboard.<br />

• Aurora Marine Services and Eagle Edge Ocean Charters provide<br />

water taxi and charter boat service<br />

• Kitamaat Village has small dock for pleasure and commercial<br />

fishing boats, breakwater<br />

Road • Highway 37 from Terrace to District of Kitimat is part of provincial<br />

road system<br />

• Paved Kitamaat Village Road (2.3 km long) connects the village<br />

to the District of Kitimat<br />

• District of Kitimat has public local transportation, and Farwest Bus Lines<br />

offers a bus service between Kitimat and Terrace<br />
