11.3 Key Issues Issues as follows, have been identified relating to traffic and transportation –<br />
GT road (NH-2) crosses the city. This leads to the unwanted entry of<br />
heavy vehicles within the city and creates accident-prone area throughout<br />
the stretch. This problem shall be partially eliminated by the completion<br />
of Allahabad bye-pass by NHAI.<br />
Rewa road (NH-27) is the major connector of MP to UP and Kolkata this<br />
leads movement of through traffic within the city.<br />
Lack of proper road geometric (Lane markings, footpath, Drainage, radius<br />
etc)<br />
High number of accidents.<br />
No parking space provisions in commercial areas.<br />
Saturation of capacity of some of the intersections.<br />
Railway line dividing into two half resulting in too many level crossings.<br />
Existing RUB are quite narrow they need to be widened to smoothen the<br />
traffic flow<br />
Large percentage of slow moving vehicles in the old city leading to<br />
reduced level of service.<br />
Ineffective traffic control and management measure – most of the roads in<br />
old city are used for haphazard on-street parking.<br />
Absence of public transport system in the city has resulted in improper<br />
operation of intermediate public transport vehicles causing traffic<br />
congestion.<br />
Heterogeneity of traffic obstructs the traffic flow and causes congestion<br />
on arterial roads<br />
Low bus handling capacity of the terminals.<br />
Bus terminals located in the core city area.<br />
Capacity saturation of some of the major roads.<br />
Pollution due to the use of petrol and diesel in public transport.<br />
