however, that he was idle. There was plenty <strong>of</strong> work for<br />

such men as Capt. Wright, and no doubt he found ample<br />

employment. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the succeed<strong>in</strong>g ten years he was ac-<br />

tively engaged <strong>in</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g up the struggl<strong>in</strong>g town <strong>of</strong><br />

Northfield, and <strong>in</strong> subsequent wars will aga<strong>in</strong> come <strong>in</strong>to<br />

prom<strong>in</strong>ence as an Indian fighter. ^<br />

1 Follow<strong>in</strong>g is the letter <strong>of</strong> Capt. Wright, <strong>of</strong>feriug his services to the government:<br />

" <strong>Northampton</strong>, Sept. 19, 1709.<br />

" May it please y"^ Excellency<br />

" With submission and under correction, I would <strong>of</strong>fer my service to y' Excellency,<br />

if that <strong>in</strong> wisdom you send forces to Canada <strong>from</strong> our parts by land, that<br />

* Here am I, send me.' This year I have done service, and hope I may aga<strong>in</strong>, not that<br />

I would trouble y' Excellency but am will<strong>in</strong>g to go.<br />

" Not else, but <strong>in</strong> duty I subscribe<br />

y Excellency's most humble serv'.<br />
