Conserving water and energy
The efforts to save water at the Munich dealership
have been extremely effective. Operating
the two wash bays located in the parking
garage on the lower level of the main showroom
in Munich requires a huge quantity of water:
Over 200 liters are needed to wash a single car.
With an average of 120 vehicles passing through
the car wash each day, this adds up to a lot of
water. In 2000, the new wastewater treatment
plant at the showroom on Frankfurter Ring
effectively reduced the volume of wastewater
by 30 percent compared to 1997 figures.
Overall water consumption decreased by nearly
40 percent.
Another focus in Munich is on reducing
energy consumption. Current plans call for a 20
percent reduction in energy use by the end of
2001. New fast-reaction garage doors will help
lower energy consumption by conserving heat
in the service area. The positive effects of this
action are not to be underestimated: In a dealership
servicing 250 to 300 cars per day, the
garage doors open and close several times a
minute – and Munich winters can be extremely
cold! This is only one example of the on-going
efforts being made in Munich. BMW has one
primary environmental objective: Continuous
improvement.
