VI. Jabez Backus (1764), born at Bozrah, Conn., 26
§ April, 1788, eldest son of Oliver Backus and Dice Hyde
v- (424), was a great grandson of Jabez Hyde (8) of the
N^ third generation. He m. 25 Xov., 1810, Hannah Lathrop
^^ (6843), b. 29 Nov., 1785, at Norwich, daughter of his first
cousin, Simeoti Lathrop (2491) and Elizabeth Calkins of

Bozrah, where they settled. They removed to Lebanon,
Conn., where he was a deacon of the church about twenty
years, and then removed to Bolton. He d. 17 Aug.,
1854, at New Haven, and was buried at Bolton, where
she was living in 1857.

5177. Sylvanus, b. 28 3Iay, 1822, at Bozrah. He m. 4 March,
1846, Mary G. Randall, b. Sept., 1828, daughter of Joha
Eaudall and Nancy Crocker of Colchester. Conn. They
were living at Lebanon in 1857, and had three children :
1. diaries Lathrop, b. 7 Jan., 1847.
2. John Randall, b. Jan., 1852.
3. Jahfz, b. July, 1854.
6178. Augustus, b. 23 Aug., 1824, at Bozrah. He m. 31 July, 1853,
Amelia Case, b. 1813, daughter of Ezra Case of Granby, Conn.
He was a printer, and they settled at Hartford, Conn., where
she d. Aug., 1855, where he was living in 1857. They had
one child :
Andreio Johnson, b. 1854, d. at the age of four months.
5179. Clarissa, b. 11 Auir., 1811, at Bozrah. She m. 17 Nov.,
1835, Enoch Hah^McCall, b. 1 April, 1813, son of Deacon
Henry 3IcCall and Mellissa Hale of Lebanon. He was a
farmer, and they were living at Windsor, Conn., in 1857,
and had one son, Jabez Backus, b. 8 Dec, 1838.
