ham, by his first wife Mary Tracy (431), was a great granddaughter
of Jabez Hyde (8) of the third generation. He
graduated at Yale in 1800, and engaged in the business of
teaching. He m. 24 Sept., 1800, Mana De Forest, b. 1790,
at Huntington, daughter of OtlniielDe Forest and Hannah
Tomlinson. They lived at Colchester, Huntington, and
Stratford, Conn., where he was a teacher al)out 40 years.
He had a fine literary taste, and considerable poetic talent.
She d. 12 Jan., 1828, at Huntington.
His children hy her were :
5240. Charles De Forest, b. 20 Feb., 1818, at Huntington. He m.
7 Aug., 1849, Resina Newport Blagrove, b. 23 April, 1828,
at New York, daughter of William Blagrove, and Margaret
McGregor. He was a broker in New York, and they were
living at Brooklyn in 18G1, and had seven children :
1. Margaret Blagrove^ b. 12 May, 1851.
2. George Allen, b. 30 March, 1853.
0. Frastus St. John, (twin) b. 30 March, 1853, d. 3 Jan.,
1853.

5240^*. Abigail, b. 4 Sept., 1813, at Woodbridge. She m. 9 Dec,
1835, George W. Shelton, and d. 1 March, 1838, at Tolland.
Conn. She had one child :
Frederick, h. Oct., 1837, and d. June, 1841.

5240(/. Caroline Mary, b. 31 July, 1820, at Huntington. She m.
19 Oct., 1841, George Nelson Allen, b. 7 Sept., 1812, at
Mansfield, Mass., son of Otis Allen and Susanna Deane.
He graduated at Oberlin college in 1841, and was elected
professor of natural history in that college in 1847, which
situation he occupied in 1861, and they were then living at
Oberlin, 0., and had five children, all born at Oberlin:
1. Frederick De Forest, b. 25 May, 1844.
2. Alice Woodworth, b. 22 Sept.. 1846.
3. George Mantell, b. 23 Nov., 1848.
4. Rosa Dale, b. 13 Oct., 1851.
5. Carrie Nelson, b. 28 June, 1854.
He then m. 4 Sept., 1828, Mary Eliza Coggeshall, b. 8
April, 1802, atlSTewport, R. I., daughter ofNathaniel Coggeshall
and Margaret his wife. He was living at Brooklyn,
N. Y., in 1863, in the full possession of his mental facul-
ties and indulging his poetic taste.
