ham, by his first wife Mary Tracy (431), w<strong>as</strong> a great granddaughter<br />

of Jabez <strong>Hyde</strong> (8) of <strong>the</strong> third generation. He<br />

graduated at Yale <strong>in</strong> 1800, and engaged <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess of<br />

teach<strong>in</strong>g. He m. 24 Sept., 1800, Mana De F<strong>or</strong>est, b. 1790,<br />

at Hunt<strong>in</strong>gton, daughter of OtlniielDe F<strong>or</strong>est and Hannah<br />

Toml<strong>in</strong>son. <strong>The</strong>y lived at Colchester, Hunt<strong>in</strong>gton, and<br />

Stratf<strong>or</strong>d, Conn., where he w<strong>as</strong> a teacher al)out 40 years.<br />

He had a f<strong>in</strong>e literary t<strong>as</strong>te, and considerable poetic talent.<br />

She d. 12 Jan., 1828, at Hunt<strong>in</strong>gton.<br />

His children hy her were :<br />

7 Aug., 1849, Res<strong>in</strong>a Newp<strong>or</strong>t Blagrove, b. 23 April, 1828,<br />

at New Y<strong>or</strong>k, daughter of William Blagrove, and Margaret<br />

McGreg<strong>or</strong>. He w<strong>as</strong> a broker <strong>in</strong> New Y<strong>or</strong>k, and <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

liv<strong>in</strong>g at Brooklyn <strong>in</strong> 18G1, and had seven children :<br />

19 Oct., 1841, Ge<strong>or</strong>ge Nelson Allen, b. 7 Sept., 1812, at<br />

Mansfield, M<strong>as</strong>s., son of Otis Allen and Susanna Deane.<br />

He graduated at Oberl<strong>in</strong> college <strong>in</strong> 1841, and w<strong>as</strong> elected<br />

profess<strong>or</strong> of natural hist<strong>or</strong>y <strong>in</strong> that college <strong>in</strong> 1847, which<br />

situation he occupied <strong>in</strong> 1861, and <strong>the</strong>y were <strong>the</strong>n liv<strong>in</strong>g at<br />

Oberl<strong>in</strong>, 0., and had five children, all b<strong>or</strong>n at Oberl<strong>in</strong>:<br />

2. Alice Woodw<strong>or</strong>th, b. 22 Sept.. 1846.<br />

3. Ge<strong>or</strong>ge Mantell, b. 23 Nov., 1848.<br />

5. Carrie Nelson, b. 28 June, 1854.<br />

He <strong>the</strong>n m. 4 Sept., 1828, Mary Eliza Coggeshall, b. 8<br />

April, 1802, atlSTewp<strong>or</strong>t, R. I., daughter ofNathaniel Coggeshall<br />

and Margaret his wife. He w<strong>as</strong> liv<strong>in</strong>g at Brooklyn,<br />

N. Y., <strong>in</strong> 1863, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> full possession of his mental facul-<br />

ties and <strong>in</strong>dulg<strong>in</strong>g his poetic t<strong>as</strong>te.
