he still lives, <strong>and</strong> is a manufacturer.<br />

of Hubbardston.<br />

He pursued the occupation of teacher during a short period in <strong>his</strong><br />

early manhood. About the time of <strong>his</strong> marriage he went into mercan-<br />

tile business, opening a store for general trade in <strong>his</strong> native town.<br />

In i860, he removed to Dover, N. H., where he kept a clothing store<br />

for some years. In 1865, he went to Vinel<strong>and</strong>, N. J., <strong>and</strong>, three<br />

years afterward, to Chicago, 111., where he was engaged in mercantile<br />

pursuits until 1871, when he returned to Massachusetts <strong>and</strong> settled in<br />
