his father's extensive property holdings,<br />

including his homestead, in what is now<br />

the town <strong>of</strong> Killingly. He succeeded to<br />

his father'- place in the community, which<br />

was much like that <strong>of</strong> the English coun-<br />

try squire. He became a leader in the in-<br />

dustrial affairs <strong>of</strong> the town. Part <strong>of</strong> the<br />

vast Danielson holdings on the Quine-<br />

baug river hecame the site <strong>of</strong> a manufacturing<br />

village named Danielsonville, now<br />

known as Danielson. Samuel Danielson<br />

married Sarah Douglas, on March 26,<br />

1725. She was born about 1704, and died<br />

March 29, 1774, aged seventy. He died<br />

in 17S0, at the advanced age <strong>of</strong> eighty-<br />

five years.<br />

(III) Colonel William Danielson, son<br />

<strong>of</strong> Samuel and Sarah (Douglas) Daniel-<br />

son, was horn August II, 1729, in the<br />

town <strong>of</strong> Killingly, <strong>Connecticut</strong>, and re-<br />

sided there all his life, becoming very<br />

prominent in the town's affairs. He was<br />

elected constable and collector <strong>of</strong> taxes<br />

in 1760. In the same year he was elected<br />

lieutenant. In 1774 he became first major<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Eleventh Militia Regiment, and in<br />

the following year took one hundred and<br />

forty-six men from Killingly to Cam-<br />

bridge, Massachusetts. He became col-<br />

onel in 1776, and after the close <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Revolutionary war was general <strong>of</strong> mil-<br />

itia. In 1788, Colonel William Danielson<br />

was a member <strong>of</strong> the State Convention<br />

called to ratify the National Constitution.<br />

He married, October 29, 1758, Sarah Wil-<br />

liams, born in 1737, died January 10,<br />

1809. He died in Killinglv, August 19,<br />

1798.<br />

(IV) General James Danielson, son <strong>of</strong><br />

Colonel William and Sarah (Williams)<br />

Danielson, was born in Killingly, Con-<br />

necticut, January 18, 1761, and died there<br />

October 25, 1827. He married, on December<br />

3, 1788. Sarah Lord, <strong>of</strong> Abington,<br />

<strong>Connecticut</strong>. She was born June 17,<br />

17' 9, and died April 28, 1852.<br />

(V) Hezekiah Lord Danielson, son <strong>of</strong><br />

neral James and Sarah (Lord) Daniel-<br />

son, was born in Danielson, <strong>Connecticut</strong>,<br />

December [6, 1802, and resided there all<br />

his life. He was prominent in local af-<br />

fairs in the town, and was a deacon <strong>of</strong><br />

the Congregational church. He died in<br />

1881. He married Laura Weaver, <strong>of</strong><br />

Brooklyn, <strong>Connecticut</strong>. Their children<br />

were: I. Charlotte Tiffany, horn in 1827;<br />

married Orville M. Capron, resided in<br />

Danielson and died in July, 1918 2.<br />

Lucy Storrs, born in 1829; married John<br />

Hutchins, and resides in Danielson. 3.<br />

Elizabeth S., born in 1831 ; married<br />

Charles C. Cundall, and died in Seattle,<br />

Washington, in July, 1916. 4. John<br />

Weaver, born in 1833; died in August,<br />

1913 ;<br />

notable figure in Xew England mill-<br />

ing industries throughout his life. 5. Joseph,<br />

mentioned below. 6. Edward, born<br />

in 1837, died in 1882. 7. Daniel, born in<br />

1842; now a resident <strong>of</strong> Danielson. 8.<br />

Henry M., born in 1845; resides in Dan-<br />

ielson.<br />

(VI) Rev. Joseph Danielson. son <strong>of</strong><br />

Hezekiah Lord and Laura (Weaver)<br />

Danielson, was born in Danielson, Con-<br />

necticut, April 20, 1835. He was educated<br />

in the schools <strong>of</strong> Danielson. and<br />

Phillips Academy, Andover, where he prepared<br />

for college, and was graduated from<br />

Williams College in the class <strong>of</strong> 1861.<br />

Having decided to study for the ministry,<br />

he immediately entered Union Theolog-<br />

ical Seminary. Shortly after completing<br />

his course he was ordained in the Chris-<br />

tian ministry, and was placed in charge<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Congregational church at Sacar-<br />

appa, Maine, where he spent four years,<br />

devoting all his strength and time to min-<br />

istering to the needs <strong>of</strong> his congregation,<br />

which when he left it was flourishing not
