Clarence Curtiss Perry was born Janu-<br />

ary _'7, [882, in New Britain, <strong>Connecticut</strong>,<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Roswell and I<br />

Perry. He attended tin- public schools <strong>of</strong><br />

New Britain and the New Britain High<br />

School. Subsequently he attended the<br />

Sheffield Scientific School <strong>of</strong> Yale Col-<br />

lege, graduating in 1004 with the degree<br />

<strong>of</strong> Ph. B. He inherited a strong taste for<br />

mechanics ami possessed great natural<br />

ability in this direction. For eight years<br />

alter his graduation he was engaged in<br />

the class <strong>of</strong> names known as occupational.<br />

It is derived from "Parcariu-," a park-<br />

keeper or shepherd. The following quotation<br />

aptly illustrates the importance ami<br />

significance <strong>of</strong> the name and also <strong>of</strong> the<br />

character <strong>of</strong> those early ancestors who<br />

first bore it :<br />

The name Parker appears in the Domesday<br />

Book (1086), and earlier than this<br />

member <strong>of</strong> the American Society <strong>of</strong> Mechanical<br />

Engineers ; <strong>of</strong> the University<br />

Club <strong>of</strong> Hartford, and the college fra-<br />

ternity, Sigma Psi.<br />

Mr. Perry married Margaret Hubert,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Robert and Alida (Norgren)<br />

Hubert, <strong>of</strong> New Britain, born in Chris-<br />

tiania, Norway. They were the parents <strong>of</strong><br />

two children, Bernhard Hubert, born<br />

April 12, 1907, and Margaret Curtiss, Au-<br />

gust 22, 1910. Mr. Perry and his family<br />

attend the Center Congregational Church<br />

very numerous throughout the country,<br />

many <strong>of</strong> them prominent men <strong>of</strong> affairs<br />

and leaders in their communities.<br />

William Parker, one <strong>of</strong> these immigrants,<br />

was an early settler <strong>of</strong> Hartford<br />

and <strong>of</strong> Saybrook. He was the father <strong>of</strong><br />

John Parker, who removed to New<br />

Haven, and there settled, and grandfather<br />

<strong>of</strong> John Parker, Jr., born October 8, 1648,<br />

died in 171 1. The latter was one <strong>of</strong> the<br />

early settlers <strong>of</strong> YVallingford, settling<br />

what was known as "Parker's Farm,"<br />

and which took its name from his surname.<br />

On November 8, 1670, he married<br />

Hannah Bassett, daughter <strong>of</strong> William<br />

Bassett. They were the parents <strong>of</strong> Eliphalet<br />

Parker, who died in 1757; he mar-<br />

ried Hannah Beach, and they were the<br />

parents <strong>of</strong> Aaron Parker, born February<br />

17, 1716, and married, March 11, 1756,<br />

Sarah Martin. Their son, Daniel Parker,<br />

married Miriam Curtis, and they were the<br />

<strong>of</strong> New Britain.<br />
