Chase resided in Suffolk. The surname<br />

Chase is derived from the French "chas-<br />

srr," to hunt, and the family has been<br />

prominent in England since the first use<br />

<strong>of</strong> surnames. The scat <strong>of</strong> the family in<br />

England was at Chesham, in Bucking-<br />

hamshire, through which runs a rapidly<br />

flowing river called the Chess, whence<br />

the name <strong>of</strong> the town. Here stands the<br />

old Manor House with remnants <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Catholic family chapel in it.<br />
