yields only 2,2',4,4'-tetranitrobiphenyl, yellC wish prisms from<br />

benzene, m.p. 163°.<br />

Jahn in a patent granted in 1918 r>1 stated that hexanitrobiphenyl<br />

is ^bout 10 per cent superior to hexa^itrodiphenylamine.<br />

Fifty grams in the lead block produced a cavity °f 1810 cc, while<br />

the same weight <strong>of</strong> hexanitrodiphenylamine produced one <strong>of</strong> 1630<br />

cc. Under a pressure <strong>of</strong> 2500 atmospheres, it compresses to a<br />

density <strong>of</strong> about 1.61.<br />
