<strong>The</strong> Secret Doctrine. 131<br />

<strong>of</strong> Divinity lies <strong>the</strong> secret <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ineffable Name,<br />

i. e., <strong>the</strong> Nameless. <strong>The</strong> Lost W<strong>or</strong>d is to <strong>the</strong> Master<br />

who possesses it <strong>and</strong> knows how to "pronounce"<br />

it, what <strong>the</strong> Logos <strong>or</strong> creative power is to <strong>the</strong><br />

Nameless. Hence <strong>the</strong> real Master creates, <strong>and</strong> in<br />

this sense is a god. This will be fur<strong>the</strong>r shown in<br />

connection with <strong>the</strong> Seven Principles <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nature<br />

<strong>of</strong> Man.<br />

<strong>The</strong> second proposition—<strong>the</strong> Eternity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Universe<br />

in toto—reveals <strong>the</strong> law <strong>of</strong> cycles <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> "incessant"<br />

w<strong>or</strong>k <strong>of</strong> creation.<br />

In o<strong>the</strong>r w<strong>or</strong>ds, <strong>the</strong> creative process never had a<br />

beginning, <strong>and</strong> will never have an end. <strong>The</strong>re is<br />

one endless succession <strong>of</strong> Universes. W<strong>or</strong>lds <strong>and</strong><br />

Solar systems continually appear <strong>and</strong> disappear.<br />

Each sun, star, <strong>or</strong> solar system has a period <strong>of</strong><br />

activity <strong>and</strong> a period <strong>of</strong> repose; emanates from, <strong>and</strong><br />

is. drawn back into, <strong>the</strong> All <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> One. <strong>The</strong>se<br />

periods are called <strong>the</strong> "Nights <strong>and</strong> days <strong>of</strong> Brahm,"<br />

<strong>The</strong> idea that a God with human qualities <strong>and</strong><br />

human passions made <strong>the</strong> Earth out <strong>of</strong> nothing in<br />

six days <strong>of</strong> twenty-four hours each, is sufficiently<br />

miraculous, <strong>and</strong> sufficiently childish, f<strong>or</strong> those who<br />

are ready to burn all who do not accept <strong>the</strong>ir interpretation.<br />

To endow a God with <strong>the</strong> power <strong>of</strong> perf<strong>or</strong>ming
