<strong>Mystic</strong> Masonry.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>or</strong>der <strong>of</strong> this interpenetration, however, is from<br />

above downvi^ard. <strong>The</strong> higher penetrate <strong>the</strong> lower,<br />

while <strong>the</strong> lower are only latent in <strong>the</strong> higher.<br />

Take,<br />

f<strong>or</strong> example, seven planes <strong>of</strong> which <strong>the</strong> highest (seventh)<br />

represents spirit, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> lowest matter <strong>or</strong><br />

physical substance. <strong>The</strong> first <strong>or</strong> lowest plane is<br />

altoge<strong>the</strong>r illus<strong>or</strong>y. It has no permanent <strong>or</strong> real<br />

existence. It is not only in continual motion <strong>and</strong><br />

continual change (F<strong>or</strong>mation, Dissolution, <strong>and</strong> Ref<strong>or</strong>mation)<br />

but <strong>the</strong>se are its characteristics. Under<br />

certain conditions it disappears (dissolves) from <strong>the</strong><br />

ist plane entirely, <strong>and</strong> passes to <strong>the</strong> 2d, <strong>and</strong> to <strong>the</strong><br />

3d, 4th, <strong>and</strong> so on. <strong>The</strong> greatest activity is on<br />

<strong>the</strong> higher planes, <strong>and</strong> is greatest on <strong>the</strong> highest;<br />

till all merge in, <strong>or</strong> return to, <strong>the</strong> One, <strong>and</strong> Changeless,<br />

from which <strong>the</strong>y emanated. All known phenomena<br />

in nature testify to <strong>the</strong> existence <strong>of</strong> such a<br />

law. Hence <strong>the</strong> saying in <strong>the</strong> old philosophy:<br />

"Nature prefers that matter shall be eternal on <strong>the</strong><br />

higher planes only."<br />

<strong>The</strong> grossest physical substance, <strong>the</strong>ref<strong>or</strong>e, is<br />

penetrated <strong>or</strong> saturated with all <strong>the</strong> higher substances<br />

<strong>and</strong> energies. <strong>The</strong>se are held to sub<strong>or</strong>dinate<br />

positions by <strong>the</strong> dominant ch<strong>or</strong>d, which is,<br />

say, "F," <strong>and</strong> so are latent <strong>or</strong> active as <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me<br />

unfolds, <strong>or</strong> as <strong>the</strong> combination varies. Can any one
